The President-elect of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky made a statement about the plans for the return of the Crimea to the Ukraine. About it on Saturday, may 18, wrote on his page in Facebook.
“I believe that we will liberate the homeland of the Crimean Tatars from the occupation. And let no matter how long the way for the return of the Crimea, we will pass it along with kirimli (Crimean Tatars — ed. “Ribbon.Ru”), “—said the politician.
On Saturday in Crimea, held ceremonies dedicated to the Day of memory of victims of deportation of the peoples of the Peninsula. In Ukraine this day is the Day of memory of victims of genocide of Crimean Tatar people.
In 1944 in the Crimea began the deportation of Tatars later on recognized the illegal charges of “mass desertion” of the red Army, and in collaboration with the German occupying forces during the great Patriotic war. A month later, under the same pretext from the Peninsula also deported Greeks, Bulgarians, Armenians and representatives of other Nations. Lived in the Crimea the Germans had been evicted earlier, in August 1941. In 1994 the Parliament of the Republic has set 18 may as the Day of memory of victims of deportation of the peoples of Crimea.
Crimea became part of Russia according to the results of a referendum held in March 2014. Ukraine and much of the international community does not recognize its results and consider the presence of the Peninsula as part of Russia’s occupation. The Russian side insists that the process of the annexation of Crimea meets standards of international law.
