Embassy of South Ossetia in Russia was sent to the interests section of Georgia at the Embassy of Switzerland press release, devoted to 27-th anniversary of the massacre of Ossetian refugees by Georgian armed groups on the ZAR road. It is reported by Sputnik.

The diplomatic mission noted that the Georgian authorities ignored the call of South Ossetia to investigate the incident as “perfectly aware of the responsibility”.

The shooting of the Ossetian refugees on the road through the village of ZAR in may 1992, occurred during the South Ossetian war, the active phase of the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict. The column, in which there were mostly elderly people, women and children, were stopped by Georgian armed units and shot at close range with machine guns. Killed 36 people, among them, as stated by the authorities of South Ossetia were six citizens of Russia.
The motive of the attackers, their identity and belonging to the Georgian army was not not established. The state Council of Georgia declared that guilty in the shooting of “enemies of the Georgian people”. The South Ossetian side lays the blame for the incident on the first President of Georgia Zviad Gamsakhurdia.
