The self-proclaimed republics of Donbass ready to exchange prisoners, but first wait for specific proposals from the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. About it reports “Interfax”.
As stated by the foreign Minister of the breakaway Lugansk national Republic (LNR) Vladislav Deinego, the situation in the zone of hostilities in the first place depends on the new head of state, not from the change of the military leadership. He noted that the exchange of prisoners already registered in the Minsk agreements from 2014, and the Luhansk constantly insists on the fulfillment of these conditions.
“But the fact that Zelensky is the news, and the fact that he is only now beginning to understand, maybe that’s a good trend”, — said Deynego.
The self-proclaimed Donetsk national Republic (DND) confirmed their readiness to exchange prisoners by the formula “all for all”. The Ombudsman Daria Morozova also stressed that this item was agreement on the settlement of the conflict, and Donetsk constantly insists on returning to this practice. The last exchange of prisoners occurred in 2017.
“However, to resume work in this direction alone public statements is not enough” — said Morozov.
In his inaugural address Zelensky said that his first and main task will be a ceasefire in the Donbass and for this he is ready “without hesitation of losing their position.” According to him, the first step in this process should be “the return of all Ukrainian prisoners of war”.
The armed conflict in the South-East of Ukraine began in April 2014, after Kiev authorities announced the start of anti-terrorist operation — as in Kiev called an attempt of forceful suppression of protests in the region. It was completed in February 2018, she was replaced by OOS under the command of the APU.
