The fence around the construction site of the temple on the site of the Park in Yekaterinburg, the construction of which sparked protests in the city, will be demolished in the near future “for peace and harmony”. About this “Interfax” said Director of the Foundation of St. Catherine of Alexander Andreev.
According to him, such a request to the Fund addressed to the Metropolitan of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye Kirill. “We certainly responded to this call for peace and harmony in our city,” said Andreyev, adding that the construction site clean up will not be before the announcement of the results of a survey of local residents.

Protests against the construction of the Cathedral of St. Catherine in the green zone in the center of Yekaterinburg began on 13 may and lasted for weeks. Activists repeatedly broke through a fence that clashes with the guards and security forces. About 100 people were arrested, 30 people were sentenced to administrative arrests ranging from 2 to 15 days.
President Vladimir Putin indicated that the issue of temple construction must take into account public opinion. After that, the regional authorities agreed to conduct an opinion poll. Also Sverdlovsk Governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev invited the citizens to choose alternative sites for the construction. Collection of proposals began on may 20 and will last for 10 days.
