The construction of Russia’s large amphibious ships project (BDK) 11711 is “the race for yesterday”, writes the “Free Press”.
“It is planned to build six BDK this project. But it is, in fact, the race for yesterday, when the Navy [Navy] of the USSR consisted of two dozen BDK. However, note that the “Ivan Gren” is the development of the project 1171, which began to build ships in the early 1960-ies”, — notes the edition.
The publication recognizes that modern Russia needs helicopter carriers (and the carriers), and “now in the presence of 16 BBC, at least three and the number in the Navy, but they’ve just been disabled.”
In February scientific Director “Krylovskiy state scientific center” (KGNC) Valery Polovinkin said that Russian ships of the “Ivan Gren” and “Admiral Gorshkov” “not very well controlled and behave in a big wave.”
In August 2018, Minister of industry and trade Denis Manturov said that Russia will not build helicopter carriers for its Navy. Then in the same month, the President of “United shipbuilding Corporation” (USC) Alexey Rakhmanov said that USC will build for the Navy expedition ship that combines the functions of the amphibious assault ship and helicopter carrier.
The construction of the Russian large landing ship project 11711 “Ivan Gren” was launched in December 2004. Launched in may 2012. Put into operation in June 2018. The displacement of “Ivan Gren” is equal to five thousand tons. The landing of the ship is at sea up to four points. The second ship project (“Peter Morgunov”) is preparing to move in crew. Two of the ship (“Vladimir Andreev and Vasily Trushin”) laid.
