The anomalous situation in 2010, when the regions of the European part of Russia formed the strongest smoke screen may be repeated. This “Greenpeace of Russia” warned of the MOE, reports “Interfax”.
Greenpeace said that environmentalists found in many regions of the smouldering peat. In addition, the situation is complicated by the “deficiency of moisture in the soil”.
The MOE replied that in the European part of the country there were large fires. Smog in Moscow and other major cities are not expected.
In 2010, because of the intense heat and prolonged decay of peat bogs in Moscow, an emergency ecological situation — the city was enveloped in a thick smoke screen. Because of the so-called “smog” the number of deaths in the city increased by 36 percent. The smoke penetrated even in the subway.
