Former President of Georgia and former Governor of the Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvili has declared readiness to return to Ukraine. His video message to the new authorities, he published on YouTube.
Saakashvili reiterated that he considers the deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship is unfair. Ukraine he called his second home. The politician believes that the courts in recognition of this decision illegal artificially delayed, and the authorities are playing with them “thimbles”.
Saakashvili stressed that the new President Vladimir Zelensky at the inauguration ceremony said about the possibility to return to the country for all Ukrainians who want to build a new state. “First you need just to keep me on the territory of Ukraine. The border guards received a ban on my entry. I hope that it will be cancelled very quickly. I’m going to fly to Ukraine — here is my answer. See you in Kiev”, — he said.
The date of his return to Ukraine, Saakashvili did not mention.
In March, Saakashvili announced the return to Ukraine after the first round of presidential elections. He hoped that Petro Poroshenko, at that time acting head of state, will not pass to the second round. He later confirmed his intention, but said that she will not be eligible for public office, and will focus on developing a new generation of young politicians.
In may 2015, Poroshenko appointed Saakashvili, Chairman of the Odessa regional state administration, a position the former President of Georgia took a year and a half. In the summer of 2017, Poroshenko has deprived Saakashvili, who at that time joined the opposition to the President, Ukrainian citizenship. In February 2018, the Ukrainian intelligence services detained Saakashvili, expelled it from the territory of Ukraine and banned him from entering the country until 2021.
