Activists of nationalist parties and movements gathered for a rally in support of the law on decommunization near the building of the constitutional court of Ukraine (CCU). About it reports “UKRINFORM”. Video of the rally available on YouTube.

In the protest involved members of the party VO “Svoboda”, the organizations “Right sector” (banned in Russia) and “Defend Ukraine”. May 21, KSU holds a closed hearing on the submission of 46 deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, demanding to recognize law on decommunization unconstitutional country.

The participants believe that the break with the Soviet past is one of the achievements of the last five years, and attempt to challenge the law will lead to “serious and unpleasant” reaction.

Earlier, summing up his presidency, Petro Poroshenko said that during his term, Ukraine has managed to almost fully complete the process of de-communization.

In 2015, Ukraine adopted a law on de-communization. It provides for a ban on the use of Soviet symbols, the condemnation of the Communist regime of the Soviet Union and the opening of the country’s Soviet secret police archives. In the framework of the implementation of the law, the authorities have renamed a few cities, tens streets. Also dismantled monuments to Soviet leaders and figures. In 2017 Ukraine reported the destruction of all monuments to Lenin. In Cherkasy and Lugansk regions in their place appeared the sculptures Chipollino and Ukrainian Cossack.
