Google stored the passwords of its users unencrypted for fourteen years. The company announced in its blog Google Cloud.
The problem affected users of Google Suite — paid package of web applications, which is mostly used by the company. Unencrypted stored passwords, which were created by the corporate network administrator manually. Now such a function in the service anymore.
Google assured users that their personal data are in no danger. The passwords were protected inside the cloud of Google, and identified cases of their use for other purposes.
“We take very seriously the security of our corporate users and are proud to use the most advanced technology in the protection of the account. This time we let their customers and themselves. We apologize to our customers and promise to mend my ways,” — said in a statement.
In April 2019, it became known that unprotected of found passwords of users of Instagram. Facebook, which the social network is owned since 2012, has admitted that the data of millions of users is stored just as text.
