NATO announced plans to expand military support to Ukraine

The new chief of the Combined armed forces of NATO in Europe, General Todd Walters promised to expand support to Ukraine. He stated this during a press conference following the meeting of the military Committee of the Alliance.

He said that it comes as the continuation of training of troops, and of “growing cooperation for the protection of territories of Ukraine”.

On 22 may, the Minister of defence of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak warned that rearmament under NATO standards may be under threat. According to him, in order to Ukraine was in the Alliance, it has to implement several reforms, including the reform of the Armed forces.

During his election campaign President Zelensky said that Ukraine’s course towards Europe and NATO have chosen the citizens, and the task of the head of state is to provide conditions for people to get what he wanted.

In February last the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, which enshrines the country’s course towards membership in NATO and the EU. Then he stressed that the attitude of these amendments is an important marker which allows to distinguish the Ukrainian from Russian.
