The purchase by Turkey of the Russian complexes With-400 threatened Ankara with “very real and very negative consequences.” This was stated by the head of the press service of the US state Department Morgan Ortagus, reports TASS.
She explained that this step by Turkey will complicate the country’s relations with the US and NATO in the defense sector. Thus, according to her, Washington is ready to cooperate with Ankara, while continuing to discuss concerns about the purchase of Russian anti-aircraft systems.
On may 22, the United States has put Turkey’s ultimatum because of the C-400. Washington insists that Ankara refused to buy s-400 and purchased the American system “Patriot”. Otherwise, Turkey will withdraw from the program production fighter fifth generation F-35, as well as depriving already ordered 100 aircraft.
A contract to supply Ankara with the four battalions of s-400 was achieved in September 2017. The contract is worth $ 2.5 billion, but half of this amount will cover the Russian loan.
