Implementation by Russia of decisions of UN International Tribunal on the case about the incident in the Kerch Strait could be the first step towards unlocking negotiations between Moscow and Kiev. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in his Facebook account.
“Thus Russia can take a step towards unblocking the negotiations and the solution it created problems in a civilized way. Let’s see which path in the Kremlin,” wrote Zelensky, adding that Ukrainians are waiting for the arrested sailors home.
Earlier on may 25, it became known about the decision of UN International Tribunal on a marine law according to which Russia should return to Ukraine 24 sailors and three ships detained in Kerch Strait in November 2018. At the moment, the sailors are under arrest, the ships are also Russian security forces.
The Russian foreign Ministry, in turn, said that the Convention on the law of the sea cannot be applied in the dispute about the incident in the Black sea, as the incident is outside the jurisdiction of international arbitration.
