Candidates in the presidents of Lithuania Ingrida Simonyte and Gainas Nausea, reaching the second round of elections, spoke out against the “tough” course in relations with Russia. It is reported by RT.
In particular, the independent candidate, economist Gitanas Nausea expressed the opinion that overly strong rhetoric can hurt because Vilnius “could not close all doors with our neighbors in the diplomatic, cultural and economic relations.”
The former Minister of Finance Ingrida Simonyte, in turn, noted the need to prepare for future negotiations with Russia, but said that now there is no reason to change policy towards Moscow.
May 26 is held in Lithuania for the second round of elections. Initially, the presidency was fighting nine people. Under the laws of Lithuania, to win in the first round, a candidate had to score at least 51% of the votes. Nausea and limonite scored 30 percent.
Since 2009, the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite heads. Prior to that she headed the Ministry of Finance of Lithuania, at different times, was the European Commissioner for education and culture, for financial programming and budget. In 2014, she was re-elected for a second term, her authority ends July 12.
