The Central Bank started to print hundred-ruble banknotes with the application of new technologies. They will now be lacquered, said in an interview to “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” Deputy Director of cash circulation Department of the Central Bank Vladimir Demidenko.
“They slowly get polluted, therefore, have less to print new banknotes to replace those which have become dilapidated. Savings due to the increase in life time of coated banknotes three to four times more than the cost of this technological operation,” — said Demidenko.
According to him, the Central Bank released a trial batch of bills is covered with different types of varnish, even in 2016. Since then, the regulator monitors the quality of banknotes emerging from circulation, analyzing them for wear and thus figuring out what varnish is better.
This year, the regulator plans to varnish about a third of the produced hundred-ruble banknotes. According to him, in denominations of 100 rubles accounts for about 19 percent of all who walk into Russia banknotes.
