The Czech Republic is interested in construction of the gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” from Russia to Europe, said the President of the country Milos Zeman, as quoted by TASS.
“The”Nord stream-2” for the Czech Republic economically viable. Understand the sadness of our Polish friends, because a gas pipeline runs through the Baltic sea. Because of this [Poland] cannot be get paid for transit [of Russian gas]. And now it I see no reason why “big brother overseas” [the U.S.] needs to speak on the topic, should or should not have the pipeline to serve its purpose,” — said Zeman.
According to him, the alternative of Russian pipeline gas supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States is not economically viable, as this option is 30 percent more expensive. “The difference in cost is too great to ignore,” said Zeman.
Also the Czech President spoke against the retention of anti-Russian sanctions, which, according to him, at best, not needed and detrimental to all parties.
“Nord stream-2” should be launched in December 2019. However, earlier the management of “Gazprom” allowed the delay of the project due to the fact that Denmark has not yet issued a permit for construction in its exclusive economic zone.
