Over the past two years, the fat in Ukraine has risen by almost 70 percent, according to UNIAN news Agency, citing data from state Statistics. This resulted in a shortage in the domestic market and necessity of import.
In April 2017 a kilo of bacon cost 44.6 hryvnia (92.3 per ruble), in April 2019 75.7 per hryvnia (185,66 rubles).
The average price of pork during the same period increased by 37 per cent from 84,6 to 116,1 hryvnia per kilogram.
Among the reasons the authorities indicate inflation and the epidemic of African swine fever (ASF). “The disease has caused the destruction of more than 32 thousand pigs, and this is only according to official figures. Against this background grew a record pork imports to Ukraine from abroad. Over the past year we have increased imports five times”, — quotes the words of the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Sergey Trigubenko.
Last winter Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Doroshenko told about the annual rise in prices of fat 67 percent. The index vegetable basket, according to him, increased by 37 percent.
