The first President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev received the title of honorary President of the Supreme Eurasian economic Council (SEEC). About this on his page on Twitter reported the press Secretary of Aydos Okibi.
The decision on awarding the title was made during the Supreme Eurasian economic Council meeting, which takes place may 29 in Nur-Sultan. In the meeting dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Eurasian economic Union, attended by the presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Prime Minister of Armenia.
The idea of assigning Nursultan Nazarbayev with the title of honorary Chairman at the meeting was proposed by the Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the meeting, said the current President of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev. According to him, thus the participants wanted to emphasize the historical contribution of Nursultan Nazarbayev in the formation of the EAEC.
March 19, Nazarbayev announced the resignation from the post of President Kazahstana. His term of office expires in April 2020. He added that the head of the security Council and of the party “Nur Otan”. The politician was the head of the Republic since April 1990 (prior to December 1991 — President of the Kazakh SSR), and almost a year before was the first Secretary of the Communist party of Kazakhstan. Nazarbayev is a record for the time of stay in power in the former Soviet Union. He also carries the title for life of the Great Leader (“the leader of the nation”).
The EEU is an international economic Union. Its purpose is to conduct a coordinated economic policy and the creation of zones of free movement of goods, services, capital and labour. The Treaty establishing the Union was signed in 2014 and entered into force on 1 January 2015. In EEU includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.
