The US has threatened France, Germany and the United Kingdom the possible consequences for trade with Iran to bypass U.S. sanctions, according to Bloomberg.
According to the newspaper, the White house is unhappy with the mechanism INSTEX, which was created jointly by the three countries to continue trade with Iran. The principle of its action is still not clear. It is known that the first time in Iran it will be supplied humanitarian goods is permitted.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin sent a letter to the head of the company INSTEX SAS, registered in Paris at the same address with the French Ministry of Finance, Peru Fisher. It States that the continuation of trade with Iran could lead to “severe consequences,” including the loss of access to the U.S. financial system.
Mnuchin suggested that the organizers INSTEX to think carefully about the impact of sanctions on the mechanism. Also, according to him, the punishment for cooperation with Iran can be applied to any country or individual companies.
USA imposed sanctions on Iran last year after the release of the nuclear deal at the initiative of President Donald trump. The restrictions, in particular, include a ban on oil exports from Iran, as well as on dollar operations of a local Bank.
