The Hungarian government begins to “cultural expansion” in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine. This statement was made by the Hungarian Minister of Transcarpathia Istvan Grege, reports OrientPress.
It is noted that the government program aims to support Hungarian culture in the region. It is emphasized that Grese called it “Hungarian cultural expansion.”
The first stage of this programme is the reconstruction of the Hungarian national theatre in Beregovo, where in the fall of 2019, will house a cultural centre. According to the Minister, then starts a support of cultural institutions around the region.
If this model works, it will be extended to other foreign Hungarian community. It is known that for the program the necessary funds in the amount of 2.5 billion forints (about 11 billion). Basically, the money will go to support cultural institutions and the organisation of performances and productions and performances in the area.
It is reported that the main part of the program implementation will begin in 2020 and last for two years.
Earlier it became known that the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban has invited Poland to take part in partition of Ukraine.
Diplomatic scandal between Ukraine and Hungary started in September 2018. Then there was video from the Hungarian Consulate in Transcarpathia, where the Consul was handing out in the building of the diplomatic mission passports to Ukrainians and led them to the oath of allegiance to Hungary. It later turned out that the diplomat didn’t give out passports and the packet of documents for obtaining citizenship. But the incident provoked a scandal, the results of which Ukraine was kicked out of the country the Consul. Hungary responded similarly.
According to the population census of Ukraine in 2001, in the Transcarpathian region were living 151,5 thousands of ethnic Hungarians.
