Honorary President of the Russian football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov has commented on the possible expulsion of Russian clubs from the Champions League after the reform of the tournament. His words leads to “Sport-Express”.
According to Koloskova, the potential reforms may affect the representation of Russia in the Champions League. However, the official suggested that a number of Russian clubs will still be able to participate in the updated tournament.
“Still, we have three or four clubs that have stable funding at the level of European leagues, merits, regalia”, he said. While Koloskov has underlined that all Russian clubs still real, as in the current UEFA Executive Committee there are no national representatives. “Our interests there is no one to defend it,” he concluded.
Earlier on June 8, the official representative of the championship of Spain in Russia Daniel Cerecedo gave an interview to the newspaper “Izvestia”, where he spoke about possible transformations in the Champions League.
According to him, potential reforms in the Champions League will change the number of new teams that will participate in the annual raffle. The changes will have a negative impact on clubs not related to the giants of European football. Representatives of the championship of Russia can and does will lose the opportunity to play in the Champions League due to the low ranking of the League.
