The first Vice-Premier, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov urged “not to make a fetish of” the fraud case brought against the founder of the investment Fund Baring Vostok Michael Calvey, reports “Interfax”.
He noted that the case is controlled by the leadership of the country, and complained about “a certain fatigue from this issue.” “Start talking — you endorsed Calvey or not supported? Are you for or against Calvey Calvey? And here begins — and when you are supported, directly or through the month?” — he explained.
According to Siluanov, at the St. Petersburg international economic forum (SPIEF) “about this case and only said,” although there are many other problems. He also drew attention to the fact that “storm of emotions” cause only investigative action in respect of a foreigner, while arrests of Russian businessmen pass quietly.
“The same situation exists in any other country — in France, in the United States. Look at how many foreign businessmen are behind bars. For a hundred years and more they give. And no one is satisfied with the debate,” — said the first Deputy Prime Minister.
Siluanov expressed confidence that the court will understand “it will be done fairly”.
On 7 June the President of Russia Vladimir Putin during the plenary session of the SPIEF called in Calvey to trust the result, providing professional and impartial work.
Founder and managing partner of the investment Fund Baring Vostok Michael Calvey were arrested on suspicion of theft of 2.5 billion rubles from the Bank “East”. At the moment he is under house arrest.
