Vladimir Putin expressed hope for the restoration of relations between Russia and Ukraine. The President of Russia has told in interview to TV channel “Mir”.
“It is inevitable that we will restore our relationship. The new leadership [of Ukraine], I hope, will be able to act vigorously in the direction of restoration of relations between Ukraine and Russia, and in the direction of solving internal problems,” he said.
The Russian leader also hoped that the new Ukrainian government will not make use of Russophobic ideas to justify internal problems in the country.
June 7, Putin expressed hope for a personal acquaintance with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. According to him, the new Ukrainian leader “does not show”. He also noted that he does not refuse contacts with the Ukrainian colleague, but yet nobody offered.
May 31, press Secretary of Russian leader Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the possibility of Putin’s meeting with Zelensky, said that Kiev should reaffirm their commitment to fulfill the Minsk agreements, as well as “to go on direct contact with representatives of the breakaway republics”.
