Scientists at the University of Arkansas have successfully tested a laser that can destroy cancer cells traveling through the blood vessels. Technology helps prevent metastasis — the emergence of secondary tumor foci, making the disease difficult-to-treat. This writes the online edition of Science Alert.
Defective cells absorb the laser light more intensively than healthy tissue. As a result, they accumulate a greater amount of thermal radiation and eventually collapse. According to the researchers, using this method they managed to destroy 96% of tumor cells. Although such developments already exist, a new device capable of scanning a liter of blood per hour, much faster.
Earlier, on 10 June 2019, it was reported about the research of American scientists in the broad Institute, which determined that the vast majority of healthy people with areas of cells with mutations, including those associated with the development of malignant tumors. A significant proportion of mutations identified on the skin, in the esophagus and the tissues of the lung, due to a high level of exposure to harmful factors to these organs.
