The construction of the Cathedral of St. Catherine in Ekaterinburg will not begin before the end of 2020. On Monday, June 17, reports TASS referring to the Vice-Governor of the Sverdlovsk region Sergey Bidonko.
“The thoroughness and quality of work must be at a high level. There is serious work that takes a lot of time, for example, painting. Documentation, reference, and another [will not allow to start the construction in the past],” he explained.
According to him, June 20 will be formed the final list of sites where it is possible to build the temple. Now it has six points: a vacant lot at the intersection of Furmanov and Belinsky, the embankment of the Iset river in the place of Instrument-making plant, the area of the demolished tower, the waters of the Iset for the Makarovsky bridge area near the “Ekaterinburg-Arena” on the street Tatishchev and the Park near the drama Theatre, where the protests of citizens. Regarding the latter option, officials have offered to adjust the project. Fall through platforms survey will be conducted among the population.
Protests against the appearance of the temple in a green area in the center of Yekaterinburg began on 13 may and lasted a week. They were accompanied by clashes of protesters with security forces and arrests. Construction stopped, might not be on the new site for the Cathedral. The local diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church decided not to insist on the construction of the temple in the Park.
