A record number of Russians (60 percent) said that military service is the duty of every real man. This is evidenced by the results of the survey “Levada-center”, RBC reports.

Almost a quarter of respondents felt that men should give back to the state, even if it doesn’t meet their personal interests. Senseless and dangerous military service called the 12 percent of respondents.

It is noted that in all the years of research from 1997, this indicator did not exceed 44 percent. In 2015 the number of those who respond positively to the conscript army, increased by 18 percent. At the same time by 16 and 3 percent, respectively, decreased the proportion of Russians who consider the army the “long” and “pointless”.

According to the sociologist “Levada-center” Karina Pipia, the authority and credibility of the army grew due to the conflict in the South-Eastern Ukraine and war in Syria. The feeling of confrontation with the enemy and the growth of external threats lead to the conclusion about the necessity of a strong army, she said.

14 June, it was reported that 73 percent of Russians consider themselves patriots. The inhabitants of the country are convinced that a patriot cannot remain indifferent to the environment (69 percent), to avoid service in the army (69%) and not knowing the history of their country (68 percent).
