The government decided to force restaurateurs to highlight local wines on the menu, and specify them as a priority. According to “Kommersant”, the corresponding mechanism is instructed to study Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Gordeyev.
The decision was taken at a meeting on the development of the Russian winemaking. On the results of the CPS, the Ministry of agriculture, the Ministry of industry and trade, the Ministry of Finance and economy Ministry was instructed to report to the government until July 18.
The Ministry of agriculture reported that generally support the idea and are willing to work through the issue with the concerned authorities and public organizations. The Finance Ministry has clarified that the services of catering are not included in the scope of their activities.
The President of the Union of winegrowers and winemakers of Russia Leonid Popovich has told, that such a mechanism was discussed in Krasnodar Krai Governor Alexander Tkachev (he held this post in the years 2001-2015). At the moment, some restaurants already provide domestic wine, but by special arrangements with manufacturers, for an additional fee.
The representatives of the winemakers said that such a move will change the perception of consumers, and is ready to support any steps to promote domestic wines. In 2018 in Russia produced 30 million gallons a quiet and 12.5 million decaliters of sparkling wine. 40 percent of the wine was accounted for by imported products.
Earlier it was reported that because of declining purchasing power, the Russians began to move rapidly on cheap wine. In particular, instead of sparkling wine are more likely to buy sparkling drinks.
