The US President Donald trump has lost interest in the Venezuelan crisis. It is reported by The Washington Post, citing its sources.
It is reported that representatives of the Venezuelan opposition, led by Juan Guido tried to convince trump that have a lot of supporters in the government and can easily dislodge President Nicolas Maduro. According to the publication, trump believed that “to win and then advertise it as a major achievement in foreign policy.” However, after a series of setbacks for the opposition, he began to lose patience and interest in this situation.
Another source noted that “the United States never said that their efforts in Venezuela will be limited to one round.” He added that the U.S. will continue pressure on Venezuelan authorities to achieve their goals.
30 APR Joan Guido urged soldiers and the people of the country to overthrow the President. He said that the army took his side, and called the events “the final phase of “operation Freedom””. The next day, President Nicolas Maduro announced his victory over the forces of the opposition.
The situation in Venezuela escalated on 23 January, when Guido amid mass protests declared himself interim President. Its legitimacy is recognized by the US, several countries in Latin America and Europe. Russia supported the incumbent President Maduro.
