During the preparation of the carrier rocket “proton-M” with the upper stage “DM-3” and the space Observatory “Spektr-RG” was the remarks. For this reason the launch was postponed to the backup date, reported on Friday, June 21, on the website of Roskosmos.
It was initially reported that the launch will take place on the following day, 22 June, but was later called another date — July 12. According to RIA Novosti source in the rocket and space industry, the launch was postponed because of the discharged battery “Spektr-RG”. “During pre-flight checks there were problems in the electrical system of a spacecraft, talking about running down the battery of the satellite”, — explained the Agency interlocutor.
In the case that the problem will not be able to eliminate it promptly, the carrier rocket “proton-M” can be removed from the launch complex of the Baikonur cosmodrome.
The launch was to take place on Friday at 15:17 GMT. Russian-German astrophysical Observatory “Spektr-RG” was supposed to start flying to Lagrange point L2, a special point in the vicinity of Earth’s orbit, where the planet’s gravitational pull is balanced by the gravitational influence of the Sun. The device is intended for the study of clusters of galaxies, supermassive black holes, white dwarfs accretively and many other objects.
