The Russian delegation is again participating in the meetings of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), she regained her full powers, including the right to vote. This decision was taken during a vote in plenary. The broadcast is available on the website of the Council of Europe.
For the recovery of Russia’s membership in the Assembly voted by 116 deputies, against — 62. Another 15 MPs abstained.
During the meeting also reviewed the proposed amendments to the resolution. In particular, it rejected a proposal from a group of MPs to exclude from the document the phrase about the credentials of the Russian delegation.
The resolution stated that the delegation should return to work with monitoring and other committees of the Assembly and begin a constructive dialogue on the implementation of their obligations. The text also urges release of Ukrainian sailors, detained in November 2018 and to pay all the outstanding contributions to the budget of the Council of Europe.
Earlier, the Chairman of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin has declared that Russia will leave the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, if the right of the delegation will be complete.
PACE deprived Russia of voting rights in April 2014. The organization felt Moscow involved in the outbreak of hostilities in the South-East of Ukraine and did not recognize the legitimacy of the reunification of Russia with Crimea.
