The former Governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro Sergio Cabral, accused members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Alexander Popov and Sergei Bubka of corruption in the choice of venues for the Olympic games in 2016. His words are quoted by UOL.
Cabral said that the IOC members received bribes for votes in favor of Rio de Janeiro. He noted that nine votes had been bought for two million dollars. The money was allegedly provided by Brazilian entrepreneur Arthur Soares.
In response to this, Popov told RIA Novosti that did not vote for a Brazilian city. “I don’t know what to do, I sit in a confused state and don’t understand what the hell is happening in Rio de Janeiro. Someone is deceiving someone, and very serious,” he said. Bubka has not yet commented on the charges.
Priests from 2000 to 2016 was a member of the IOC, at the moment, Russian is an honorary member of the organization without voting rights. Bubka since 2008 is an active member of the Committee.
The Olympic games took place in Brasilia from 5 to 21 August 2016. The competition was held in South America.
