In early July, Russian scientists will go on an expedition, during which to observe the tagging of Baikal seals using satellite beacons, reports TASS with reference to the press service of the Institute of problems of ecology and evolution (IPEE) named after A. N. Severtsova the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to the Agency, this will allow us to observe the migration of animals in the waters of the lake for several months. “In addition, the seals have to be selected of a biological sample in a humane manner. By results of researches it will be possible to judge the condition of animals, to arrange haul out on the Ushkany Islands”, — quotes Agency the message a press-services of Institute of ecology and evolution.
The expedition will take place in the framework of the project “the Baikal seals” initiated by the Foundation “Baikal Lake” in April 2018. Studies have also received support from the presidential grants.
The venue of the expedition selected ushkanii archipelago, located in the middle part of lake Baikal.
Until 2024 in Russia it is planned to implement the national project “Ecology”. All will spend four trillion rubles, three of which will receive from investors. The project consists of several sections: “Clean country”, “Integrated system of municipal solid waste management”, “Infrastructure for waste management I and II classes of danger,” “Clean air”, “Clean water”, “Improvement of the Volga”, “the preservation of the unique water objects, protection of lake Baikal”, “the Conservation of biological diversity and development of ecological tourism”, “forest Conservation” and “Implementation of best available technologies”.
