Russia will repay the debt on contributions to the Council of Europe (COE), as soon as the right of her delegation will be fully restored. This statement was made by Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko, said Friday, July 5, TASS.
“Part of this debt we have repaid and now continue to work there you must pass a state procedure”, — he said, answering a reporter’s question about the debt of the Russian side to the organization.
On 3 July the first Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs Vladimir Jabbarov said that Russia, in his opinion, should not have to pay a multimillion-dollar debt in recent years could not take full participation in the structures of the CE.
July 2, the press Secretary Secretary General of the Council of Europe Daniel Holthe said that Russia owed 55 million euros — the contribution for 2017 and 2018 in the budget of the organization. The fee for 2019 in the amount of 33 million euros Moscow already paid.
Russia was deprived of the basic powers of the PACE in April 2014 due to the reunification of the Crimea and armed conflict in the Donbass. In 2017 Moscow, which is the biggest contributor of the Assembly, froze payment of membership dues and announced that unfreeze it only after full recovery of its powers in the organization.
