In the state Duma on Monday, July 8, will raise the issue of ban on import to Russia of Georgian products, including wine and mineral water. This was announced by Vice-speaker of the lower house of Parliament Sergei Neverov in Facebook.

According to him, despite the fact that a ban on air links with Georgia entered into force, hostile actions against Russia continue. In particular, according to Neverov, there are cases of attacks on Russian citizens “and outright rudeness and insults”.

In this regard, it was decided to submit to the Council of the state Duma the proposal on the ban on the import of Georgian products. Also under the ban can get money transfers to Georgia. “These things require an adequate response,” — said Neverov.

On 3 July it was reported that Russia ranked first in the world in the import of wine from Georgia. From January to June 2019, Russia imported from Georgia 25 million bottles of wine. This is six percent more than the same period last year.

A ban on direct air links with Georgia entered into force on 8 July. The corresponding decree the President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed in June after a wave of anti-Russian protests in Tbilisi.
