The Syrian Arab army (SAA) on Sunday began an offensive operation West of the city of Deir ez-Zor. Her goal is to defeat the remaining rebel positions “Islamic state” (IG banned in Russia) in the region, reports Al-Masdar News.
It is reported that CAA in offensive support of the National defense forces — volunteer armed formation, created by Syria with assistance from Iran. The attack mainly at positions near the town of al-Shula, which, according to the publication, in the last two months has been increasingly subjected to attacks by militants.
The city is exempt from the rule of terrorists in 2018, but since then it has not stopped the activity of underground cells of the “Islamic state”.
On 7 July it was reported that the Iraqi army decided to clean up from ISIS-held territory from their side of the border with Syria: the military launched an offensive in the provinces of Salah ad-DIN and Anbar in the West of the country.
In 2014, ISIS has captured large areas of Syria and Iraq, declaring there’s a global Caliphate. In 2017 the group has lost control over 90 percent of the previously occupied territories. With the organization in Syria fought as the international coalition led by the United States and Russia, which Damascus has formally requested help.
