Ukraine opened a case of treason due to teleconference with Russia

The Prosecutor General’s office of Ukraine started criminal proceedings on the attempted treason of NewsOne TV channel plans to hold a teleconference with Russia. On 8 July informed the public Prosecutor of Republic Yury Lutsenko on his page in Facebook.

In connection with the NewsOne intentions to hold a teleconference with the Russian “podcasting” channel was the production of “the attempt to commit treason by providing information support of subversive activities against Ukraine,” Lutsenko wrote.

All involved, from the owner of the channel to the host, announced a teleconference, was summoned for interrogation. “Is preparing a submission to the court about the arrest of assets”, — concluded the Prosecutor.

NewsOne previously canceled a teleconference. The channel said the journalists and their families began to receive threats of physical violence.

On 7 July, the TV presenter Dmitry Kiselyov in the program “Vesti of the week” announced that on 12 July at 18:00 on “Russia 1” and NewsOne will hold a two-hour teleconference, “we Need to talk”, in which will participate the citizens of Russia and Ukraine. On the Russian side, leading will be Andrei Malakhov and Maria Sittel. Kiselev has compared the project with a teleconference between the USSR and the USA in the 1980-ies was conducted by the journalists Vladimir Pozner and Phil Donahue.

The decision to hold the teleconference provoked sharp criticism in Ukraine. President Vladimir Zelensky called the idea of cheap, but dangerous pre-election PR move.
