The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky believes that peace in Ukraine can only be returned as a “diplomatic weapon”. His words are quoted by UNIAN.
The head of state urged international partners of Kiev to visit Donbas to see “how many troubles have brought Ukraine this war.” He also believes that it will save “from doubts about the extension of sanctions” against Russia.
“And this war we want to stop. And want to restore peace in Ukraine, but this can only be done only weapon is diplomacy,” he said.
Earlier on 8 July Zelensky appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold talks in Minsk on resolving the situation in the Donbass. According to the Ukrainian leader, the summit could take place under the mediation of U.S. President Donald trump, Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, Prime Minister of great Britain Theresa may and French President Emmanuel Macron.
July 1, the Ukrainian leader said he could not promise that “tomorrow will be a peace that will end the war” in the Donbass. However, according to the head of state after divorce troops appeared “fragile hope for the beginning of the end of the hot phase of the war.”
The armed conflict in the South-East of Ukraine began in April 2014 after the change of power in the country. The Ukrainian leadership accused Russia of involvement in the conflict. Moscow has repeatedly stated that it has nothing to do with what is happening in the Donbass.
