Former chief of the General staff of the Armed forces of Ukraine (APU) Vladimir Zaman said that the conflict in the Donbass cannot be solved only with the help of the Minsk agreements. He told about it in interview “Interfax-Ukraine”.

“To reach a settlement of the situation in the Donbas, execution of Minsk agreements, I think, problematic. You need to find other ways with the assistance of the international community, primarily the US and the UK,” he said.

Zaman is confident that the problem of Donbass and the Crimea must be solved in complex. In his opinion, if Ukraine will concentrate its forces on the resolution of the conflict in the Donbass, it will only complicate the situation in the Crimea.

“I see no solution to the question of Donbass in the near future. Ceasefire — Yes, probably. And in the future will be either a frozen conflict or unlocking of Commerce,” predicted the former chief of the General staff.

Earlier the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that he hoped that the conflict in the Donbas will end in a year. He noted that the parties move to a sustainable ceasefire, and the only “weapon” that can stop the war and bring peace is diplomacy.

Ukraine signed the Minsk agreement from Kiev require the adoption of the law on Amnesty for participating in the conflict on the side of the breakaway republics of individuals, changes of the Constitution, which stipulates the special status of Donetsk and Lugansk regions and their right to linguistic self-determination, restoration of socio-economic relations with uncontrolled Kiev territories and so on.

The armed conflict in the South-East of Ukraine began in April 2014 after the change of power in the country. The Ukrainian leadership accused Russia of involvement in the conflict. Moscow has repeatedly stated that it has nothing to do with what is happening in the Donbass.
