The majority of residents of Ukraine support the idea of country’s accession to NATO. This was stated by the Director of the Center for strategic territory development Andrey Orlov during the presentation of the results of a study commissioned by the State Committee for television and radio broadcasting of Ukraine, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.
According to Orlov, 62 percent of respondents in favor of Ukraine’s accession to NATO and only 21 percent of Ukrainians do not support such a policy. Moreover, among the respondents, the popular idea that NATO membership will provide a guarantee of national security of Ukraine — so consider that 57 percent of respondents. Seven times less than Ukrainians — only eight percent — believe that such a guarantee of security could become a military Union with Russia and other CIS countries. 18 percent of those surveyed would prefer the country had a neutral status.
The study was conducted from 14 to 30 may — during this time polled more than 2 thousand people living in 24 regions of Ukraine. As the authors of the study, the sampling error does not exceed 2.18 percent.

According to the results of their study, after the victory of Vladimir Zelensky in the presidential elections the level of public support the idea of Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the EU has reached a historic high. For joining the Alliance were 53 percent of Ukrainians, and for integration with the European Union — 62%.
The course of Ukraine to join the EU and NATO, enshrined in the Constitution. The relevant law in February of this year signed the fifth President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. The new head of state Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly stated that he also supports this course. At the same time, he believes that these decisions should be taken at a national referendum, however, to organize the popular vote, he intends only when Ukrainians are ready.
