The Prosecutor’s office said that the soldiers stabbed his colleague minor injuries and he did not need hospital treatment. Taking into account all the circumstances of the case, the Prosecutor’s office decided to discontinue the prosecution.
The accused was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service for five months.
The conflict between the soldiers in the Viru battalion occurred on 9 February 2019. Assistant duty officer made a remark to a group of Russian conscripts who wanted to go to the gym instead of fulfilling the duties of cleaning the barracks. In response to the remark the young people beat up their colleague.
After the incident, the leader of the Conservative people’s party of Estonia Martin Helme, said that Viru infantry battalion of Russian soldiers deployed terror against the conscripts of Estonians. He noted that most of the soldiers of the battalion are Russian, and they refuse to speak Estonian as with colleagues and officers.
“When the national anthem of Estonia, they loudly sing the Russian. They also terrorize the Estonian guys who are in the minority there. There were also cases of direct violence”, — said Helme.
The General staff of the Estonian army then disown the national overtones of the conflict, despite the fact that it was actually involved in Estonian and Russian.
