Russians urged not to violate the rights of lesbians and gays

Russia should not violate the rights of representatives of sexual minorities. This was stated by Commissioner for human rights in Russia, Tatiana Moskalkova, reports “Interfax”.

“We have to accept these people, different people in society. If they violated their rights on this basis will be denied employment, admission to educational institution on this basis, it is wrong, it is written in the law,” — said the Ombudsman.

In addition, Moskalkova noted the need to “balance the interests” with the leaders of the LGBT community. In her opinion, “a democratic society should be tolerant of different religions, relation to art, culture”.

In April in Russia for the first time acknowledged discrimination of transgender. In St. Petersburg transgender woman Anastasia Vasilyev decided to reinstate Pecatonica where she worked for more than ten years, and to pay her 10 thousand rubles as compensation for moral damages and one million 850 thousand rubles — for the time of enforced idleness. She was fired in 2017 after the sex change.

Russians ‘ attitude to gay parades and same-sex marriage remains negative. Most Russians opposed the holding of the gay pride parades (81 percent of respondents) and gay marriage (87 percent), according to a survey by VTSIOM. More than half of respondents have a negative attitude towards representatives of sexual minorities and considered that the orientation of a person depends on his personal choice.
