Resumption of flights between Russia and Georgia is premature, the danger for Russians there remains, said the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov. It is quoted by TASS on Wednesday, July 10.
A Kremlin spokesman expressed confidence that sooner or later the traffic will resume. “When the slightest threat arising from Russophobic manifestations will disappear, there will be time for such decisions”, — he added.
Earlier Wednesday, the newspaper “Kommersant”, citing a source in the Russian foreign Ministry reported on possible restoration of air links. According to the publication,
Moscow was satisfied with the reaction of the Georgian authorities on the obscene remarks of the journalist Georgy Gabunia the address of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
A ban on direct air links with Georgia entered into force on 8 July. The corresponding decree of the Russian leader signed in June after a wave of anti-Russian protests in Tbilisi. The demonstrations began after the Russians occupied the chair of speaker of the Georgian Parliament during a formal event.
