European court lifted sanctions against Yanukovych and his team

The court of the European Union lifted economic sanctions against former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and members of his team. It is reported “European true” with reference to the press service of the court.

According to the newspaper, the decision concerns the restrictions, which were introduced in the period from 2016 to 2018. Under them, in particular, were former Minister of revenues and duties of Ukraine Alexander Klimenko, former head of the National Bank Sergei Arbuzov, the former Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka and his son Artem, head of the Yanukovych administration Andriy Klyuyev and the son of former President Alexander Yanukovych.

Sanctions against the other 12 supporters of Viktor Yanukovych who made the list, remain in force, notes that “European truth”.

The European Union has included Yanukovych and his entourage in the sanctions list in 2014. The reason for the restrictions was the criminal proceedings on embezzlement of budget funds, which was opened by the Ukrainian authorities. All of the assets of associates of the former President abroad were frozen. Family Yanukovych appealed the sanctions, and in 2015, the EU Council has changed the reasons for keeping the list of names of the defendants. Every year, the restrictions were extended.

Yanukovych was President of Ukraine from 2010 to 2014. He left the country after the Euromaidan — mass protest actions in Kiev and other cities in the country has undergone a regime change. In Ukraine against the former President several criminal cases, his property on the territory of the country were arrested.
