Court of arbitration for sport (CAS) upheld the appeal of former Deputy Prime Minister for sports Vitaly Mutko to a lifetime exclusion from participation in the Olympic games. This was reported on the website of the court.
CAS annulled the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from December 5, 2017. Mutko at the decision of the Executive Committee of the organization has been barred for life from participation in the Games in any capacity. The same punishment was received by the former Deputy Minister of sports Yuri Nagornykh. Chelsea have lodged an appeal on 26 December of the same year.
Also according to the decision of the IOC in December 2017, the Russian team was disqualified. the decision was taken on the findings of an investigation into doping in Russian sports. The athletes are not able to go to the Olympics in Pyeongchang under the Russian flag, instead they have formed a team “Olympic athletes of Russia”, acting under the Olympic flag. Also a number of athletes were not allowed to participate in the competition.
