Lithuania and Latvia considered cynical salute in honor of their liberation from the Nazis

Latvia followed by Estonia, expressed its outrage over Russia’s plans to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Baltics from German occupation. Charge d’affairs of Russia Vadim Vasiliev was summoned to the foreign Ministry, reported on the website of the foreign Ministry.

“Latvia strongly condemns dominant in recent years in Russia attempts to justify jointly committed by Stalin and Hitler’s crimes, including the conclusion of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact (which was signed on 23 August 1939, approx. “Of the tape.ru”), “—said in a statement.

In addition, the foreign Ministry reminded that Moscow has denied a visa to the group of Lithuanians who planned to visit the “abandoned” graves of the deported compatriots.

On 10 July, the Russian Ambassador to Estonia was summoned to the foreign Ministry in connection with Moscow’s plans to hold a salute in honor of the 75th anniversary of the city liberation from the Nazis. Tallinn was named the celebration “provocative step” and pointed out that Estonia considers being part of the Soviet Union second occupation.

The idea of holding a festive fireworks in honor of the 75 anniversary of the liberation of the cities of the former USSR and Eastern Europe from the forces of Nazi Germany suggested the Ministry of defence. The Agency was going in 2019 to celebrate the victories of the red Army in Tallinn, Vilnius, Kaunas, Riga, Chisinau and Brest. In 2020 it was planned to continue to run the fireworks in honor of the liberation of Warsaw, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna and Prague. The latter should be salute in honor of the 75th anniversary of the capture of Berlin.
