Deputy Prime Minister, Vitaly Mutko, last held the post of Minister of sport, commented on the decision of the court of arbitration for Sport (CAS) to cancel his punishment — a lifetime ban on any participation in the Olympic games. “I am satisfied with the decision made by CAS,” said Mutko.

Earlier, on 11 July, the CAS annulled the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from December 5, 2017, which Mutko was barred for life from participation in the Games in any capacity. The same punishment was received by the former Deputy Minister of sports Yuri Nagornykh. Chelsea have lodged an appeal on 26 December of the same year.

In addition, in December 2017, the IOC has disqualified the national team of Russia on results of investigation about doping in Russian sport. At the Games in Pyeongchang, Russian athletes competed under the Olympic flag, and some of them are not admitted to the competition.
