French scientists came to the conclusion that natural fruit juices increase the risk of cancer about the same extent as soda. Article with the results of scientific work published in the British Medical Journal.
The study involved 101 257 participants, whose average age has reached 42 years. Experts have estimated the daily consumption of drinks containing sugar or artificial sweeteners, using a special nutritional questionnaire, developed to account for the admission of 3.3 thousand different products. Was analyzed the link between the beverages and the possible development of malignant tumors in the future, including breast, prostate, colon and rectum.
It turned out that the consumption of beverages with added sugar is associated with an increased risk of developing cancer of any type at 18 percent and breast cancer by 22 percent. Artificial sweeteners (as well as unsweetened tea and coffee) in this regard was safe, but the love for natural juices (contain sugar in an amount of 10 grams per 100 milliliters) were associated with increasing probability of cancer by 12 percent.
The presence of correlation does not necessarily imply a causal relationship. However, scientists believe that the consumption of natural juices is indeed an independent factor of carcinogenesis in addition to obesity. So, the carbohydrates in the drinks can have an effect on visceral fat, blood sugar and inflammatory processes.
