The Swedish Supreme court first convicted of rape adopted last year the law on consent to sex. Reported by the Associated Press.

The man, who is not named, was convicted of sexual abuse and sentenced to eight months in prison for sexual intercourse with a woman, whom he met in social networks. The victim said that “was passive and did not Express explicit consent to a sexual act.”

The amendment to the law under which the defendant was convicted, went into effect last year. Now in Sweden, any intercourse without explicit verbal and physical consent is considered rape. Previously to confirmation of rape was required to find signs of violence, the use of the vulnerable situation of the victim or other methods of coercion to have sex.

Sweden became the 10th country in Europe to implement such a law on the nature of sexual crimes.
