The international Olympic Committee (IOC) reacted to the decision of the court of arbitration for Sport (CAS) for rescission of lifetime suspension of Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Vitaly Mutko from participation in the Olympic games. The words of the representative of the press service leads TASS.
The IOC noted that taking into account the decision of the CAS, however, reminded that the Committee reserves the right “to take any action in relation to particular Olympic games.” Mutko was satisfied with the decision of the CAS.
Earlier, on 11 July it became known that the CAS annulled the decision of the IOC Executive Board dated December 5, 2017. Then Mutko was barred for life from participation in the Games in any capacity. The same punishment was received by the former Deputy Minister of sports Yuri Nagornykh.
This decision followed the suspension of the national team of Russia. At the Games in Pyeongchang, domestic athletes were under a neutral flag. Also a number of athletes were not allowed to participate in the competition.
From may 2018 Mutko holds the post of Vice Prime Minister for construction and regional development. Prior to that, in the same position he was in charge of sports, was previously the Minister of sport and President of the Russian football Union.
