To draw conclusions about the causes of mass death of bees and amount of possible losses for Russia is premature. This statement was made by the Russian Ministry of agriculture, RIA Novosti reported.
The Ministry stressed that beekeeping is one of the important sub-sectors of livestock, and the situation is of concern. “The issue of compensation of harm, caused to property of citizens as a result of violations of the current legislation in the field of safe handling of pesticides and agrochemicals, can be solved in court by prosecution of the perpetrators of the offence,” said the Ministry.
Until the end of July, the agriculture Ministry plans to analyse data from regions to prepare recommendations to prevent the deaths of insects.
Earlier on Tuesday, July 16, the head of the National Association beekeepers and processors of pcheloprodukty Alfir of Mannapov said that the loss of the Russian economy due to the mass death of bees can be one trillion rubles. It is not just about the loss of honey producers, but also farmers who grow crops demanding pollination to harvest.
The mass death of insects recorded in a number of Russian regions in the summer of 2019. In particular, such cases were observed in the Udmurt Republic, Mari-El, Lipetsk, Saratov, Ulyanovsk, Kursk areas, and also in the Altai region. Rosselkhoznadzor said that the situation is getting worse. According to experts, this may be due to the uncontrolled use of pesticides in the processing field.
2014 2015 mass death of bees was observed in the United States. During this time, killing more than 40 percent of the colonies. Among the causes of death insects called parasites — mites of the genus Varroa (Varroa Oudemans), and the use of neonicotinoids — pesticides used to protect crops, fruits and vegetables from pests. These substances block nerve endings, and the bees die of starvation.
