Wholesale sugar prices in Russia in June 2019 fell by 27.5 per cent compared to November last year. This writes belongs to Grigory Berezkin the RBC, citing data from the Union of sugar producers.

In November, the wholesale price of sugar was at the level of 37 rubles per kilogram, but by June they had fallen to 26.9 rubles. The head of the Union Andrey Bodin explained that the price drop is atypical for June, as in the sugar industry season begins in August and lasts through July.

And at the end of the season, the demand for sugar remains high and prices rise because producers need to compensate for spending on storage. In previous years in June sugar cost much more expensive: in 2016, the price was at the level of 45.1 rubles per kilogram, the previous low refers to 2018 — then a kilogram of sugar was worth 32.8 rubles.

The decrease in wholesale prices leads to a fall in the value of sugar at retail, however it is less significant. From the beginning, the sugar fell to 3.79 ruble and by June was down to 43.19 rubles per kilogram. However, in comparison with June of last year, the price even increased — then the cost of a kilogram of sugar was 41,29 ruble.

In 2019 the price of a kilogram of sugar in the opt was the lowest for at least five years, said the financial Director of the Russian office of the French company Sucden Gleb Tikhomirov. This company manufactures sugar “Delight” and delivers it to the largest producers of confectionery products and soft drinks, including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Mars and Nestle.
